2 People in East Jakarta Died Because of Dengue Fever

East Jakarta residents should be aware of the spread of dengue fever (DBD). It is recorded that since the beginning of January-April this year, 1,485 people have suffered dengue fever. From that amount, two people who domiciled in Cipayung and Pasar Rebo sub-districts, died.

Generally, the patients died because they were taken late to the hospital

Head of East Jakarta Health Sub-Department, Yudhita Endah P, said that despite the number of dead people decreases compared to the same period last year, yet dengue fever case in East Jakarta is increasing. Last year, there were 673 cases with 6 people died. “Generally, the patients died because they were taken late to the hospital,” she told, Thursday (4/24).

According to Endah, Duren Sawit becomes sub-district with highest number of dengue fever case happened, which is 161 cases. She assessed the cause of it is the residents’ low awareness in applying clean and healthy lifestyle as well as lack of awareness shown by the wiggler hunters (jumantik) in conducting surveillance. “Most residents refused when wiggler hunter team checked their homes,” she stated.

For those who refused wiggler hunter team checking their homes, Endah continued, their homes will be marked with stickers. So, they must do wiggler hunter works themselves. As for the medical personnel and facilities for dengue fever patients in hospitals in East Jakarta, it already meets standard.
